HANSHI FERN (Fernand REAL) CLEROUX

Hanshi Fernand Real Cleroux est né de la période de guerre PMQ à l'aéroport d'Ottawa,le 16 août 1938. Il grandit et fit son instruction écolière dans la région d'Ottawa. C'est en 1957, à l'âge de 19 ans qu'il commenca la pratique du karaté avec le Sensei Ary Anastasiadis et le Sensei Mike Godard. Par la suite, il poursuivit sa formation avec O-Sensei Masami Tsuroka. C'est O-Sensei Tsuroka qui par la suite, recommenda Fern au Dr. Chitose fondateur du style Chito-ryu pour sa ceinture noire. En 1967, Fern reçu des mains du Dr. Chitose sa ceinture noire.

Connu par leur réputation le 'French Connection' Sensei Andre Langelier,Prof. George Sylvain et Hanshi Fern Cleroux décidèrent d'ouvrir un club de karaté dans Ottawa et Hull. Avec l'assistance du O-Sensei Tsuroka,leur réputation frappa à tous les niveaux jusqu'à être reconnue dans toutes les compétitions.

Avec la participation de André Langelier et O-Sensei Tsuruoka, Hanshi Cléroux obtenu des mains du Dr. Chitose sa ceinture noire 2e et 3e Dan. De par sa fougue et tenacité lors des compétitions, Hanshi Cléroux acquis la réputation d'un homme dur et solide. A cette époque, on a écrit plusieurs articles de journeaux sur l'homme dur de l'outaouais.

Par la suite, il reçut son 4e Dan de Sensei Richard Kim avec la recommendation du Sensei Benny Allen. Son 5e et 6e Dan lui fût attribué par la Fédération de Karaté du Québec.

En 1987, il fût honoré en recevant son 7e Dan dans l'Art du Chito-Ryu du Lt. Gouverneur Général du Québec, l'Honorable Gills Lamontagne.

En 1995, il fût honoré à nouveau par le Premier Ministre du Québec l'Honorable Jacques Parizeau et reçu son 8e Dan dans l'Art du Chito-Ryu pour sa dévotion et son implication dans le développement de l'Art du Karaté au Québec et au Canada.

Le 16 août 2008 à Toronto lors du Gala "Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fames" Hanshi Cléroux reçu son 9e Dan des mains du père du Karaté au Canada le O-Sensei Tsuroka (10e Dan). Par la même occasion, il fût intronisé au temple de la renommé du "Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fames".

Son amour et sa dévotion pour le Karaté l'a propulsé à travers le monde non seulement en tant que compétiteur ou même arbitre mais plus spécialement comme Entraîneur en Chef de l'équipe Canadienne (WAKO pour une année et pour la CKA). Une récolte de 6 coupes d'équipe internationnale, plusieurs médailles d'Or, d'Argent et de Bronze en concours individuelle dont 2 fois en Hollande, en Allemagne, en France, en Italie et dans plusieurs championnats au Canada et aux États Unis.

Hanshi Cléroux est un perfectionnist. Pour lui, il n'y a pas d'entre deux ou de semblant ce qui lui valu le surnom de "The BEAR". Être en travers de sa route ou celle de ses équipes n'était surtout pas une chose à faire.

Il débuta au sein de la NKA en tant que Vice Président pour une période d'un an et par la suite s'orienta plutôt à l'enseignement de ses élèves et de la formation des ses équipes.

Fern est l'un de membre fondateur de l'Association Canadienne de Karaté et y demeura son président de sa fondation en 1971.

Il fût l'un des fondateurs de la Fédération Québecoise de Karaté et président de 1973 à 1984 et fondateur de l'Association provinciale de Karaté Chito-Ryu de 1976 à 1996.

En 1996, il fonda le style Chito-Shin-Kaï et son Association et y demeure son président à cette date.

Il fût l'un des premier canadien lors d'une formation en Écosse à obtenir un status d'Arbitre Internationnal de Max Viche sous la présidence de M. Jacque Delcourt de l'Union Européenne de Karaté. Cette formation et ce status allait permettre une représentation des compétiteurs canadien au niveau des compétitions internationnal en dehors du Canada.

Le 3 décembre 2011, Sensei Cléroux (9e dan) a reçu le tître de HANSHI des mains du père du karaté au Canada le O-Sensei M. Tsuruoka (10e dan)

Le 21 janvier 2015, Fern Cléroux a de nouveau été honoré en reçevant son 10e dan (Judan) du Gouvernement du Canada et du représentant de l'ambassade du Japon au Canada.

Hanshi Fern Cléroux est et représent le Karaté Canadien.

Hanshi Fernand Real Cléroux was born during the PMQ war period at the Ottawa airport on August 16, 1938. He was raised and educated in the Ottawa area. In 1957, at the age of 19, he began practising karate with Sensei Ary Anastasiadis and Sensei Mike Godard. He then continued his training with O-Sensei Masami Tsuruoka. It was O-Sensei Tsuruoka who later recommended Fern to Dr. Chitose, founder of the Chito-Ryu style, for his black belt. In 1967, Fern received his black belt from Dr. Chitose. 

Known by their reputation, the 'French Connection' Sensei Andre Langelier, Prof. George Sylvain and Hanshi Fern Cléroux decided to open a karate club in Ottawa and Hull. With the assistance of O-Sensei Tsuruoka, their reputation spread to all levels and was recognized in all competitions. 

With the participation of André Langelier and O-Sensei Tsuruoka, Hanshi Cléroux obtained his 2nd and 3rd Dan black belt from Dr. Chitose. Hanshi Cléroux's fiery, tenacious approach to competition earned him a reputation as a tough, solid man. At the time, several newspaper articles were written about the tough man from the Outaouais region. 

He subsequently received his 4th Dan from Sensei Richard Kim, with the recommendation of Sensei Benny Allen. His 5th and 6th Dan were awarded by the Fédération de Karaté du Québec. In 1987, he was honoured by receiving his 7th Dan in the Art of Chito-Ryu from the Lt. Governor General of Quebec, the Honourable Gills Lamontagne. In 1995, he was honoured again by the Premier of Quebec, the Honorable Jacques Parizeau, and received his 8th Dan in the Art of Chito-Ryu for his devotion and involvement in the development of the Art of Karate in Quebec and Canada.

On August 16, 2008, at the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fames Gala in Toronto, Hanshi Cléroux received his 9th Dan from the father of Karate in Canada, O-Sensei Tsuruoka (10th Dan). At the same time, he was inducted into the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fames. 

His love and devotion to Karate has propelled him around the world, not only as a competitor or even referee, but more especially as Head Coach of the Canadian Team (WAKO for one year and for the CKA). A harvest of 6 international team cups, several gold, silver and bronze medals in individual competition, including 2 in Holland, Germany, France, Italy and in several championships in Canada and the USA. 

Hanshi Cléroux is a perfectionist. For him, there's no in-between or pretence, earning him the nickname "The BEAR". Getting in the way of him or his teams was never an option. 

He started out with the NKA as Vice President for a one-year period, and then turned his attention to teaching his students and training his teams. Fern was one of the founding members of the Canadian Karate Association and remained its president from its foundation in 1971. He was one of the founders of the Fédération Québecoise de Karaté and its president from 1973 to 1984, and founder of the Association Provincial de Karaté Chito-Ryu from 1976 to 1996. In 1996, he founded the Chito-Shin-Kaï style and its Association and remains its president to this day. 

During a training session in Scotland, he was one of the first Canadians to obtain the status of International Referee from Max Viche under the presidency of Mr. Jacque Delcourt of the European Karate Union. This training and status enabled Canadian competitors to be represented at international competitions outside Canada. 

On December 3, 2011, Sensei Cléroux (9th dan) received the title of HANSHI from the father of karate in Canada, O-Sensei M. Tsuruoka (10th dan). On January 21, 2015, Fern Cléroux was honoured once again by receiving his 10th dan (Judan) from the Government of Canada and the representative of the Japanese Embassy in Canada.
